Antwan Cordy started at defensive back and punt returner in SU's season opener.

UPDATED: Sept. 6, 2o18 at 2:57 p.m.

Defensive back Antwan Cordy has been granted a second medical hardship waiver by the NCAA, per SU Athletics.

The fifth-year senior has been granted medical hardship waivers for the past two seasons, in which he played just three games due to a week two fractured forearm in 2016 and a week one broken ankle in 2017.

Syracuse (1-0) head coach Dino Babers spoke to the media during the fall training camp about how the public hadn’t seen what Cordy could do because he had been hurt the previous two seasons. Now, barring another injury, Cordy will have both seasons back in full.

Cordy made one tackle in Friday’s 55-42 win over Western Michigan (0-1). SU’s next contest is Saturday at home against Wagner (1-0).

CORRECTION: In a previous version of this article, Antwan Cordy’s eligibility status for a sixth season was misstated. Cordy was granted a second medical hardship waiver by the NCAA but would need to apply separately for a sixth season. The Daily Orange regrets this error.
