The fund will be administered by Hendricks Chapel Dean Brian Konkol.

Hendricks Chapel will use a $1 million donation from an anonymous Syracuse University alumnus and his wife to provide aid for non-academic student expenses, such as basic needs and unanticipated financial burdens, the university announced in a news release Monday.

The Hendricks Chapel Student Opportunity Fund, which will be administered by Brian Konkol, the chapel’s dean, will help “cover the financial gap” for students who have difficulty paying for clothing, food, emergency travel and health care. It is also designed to help financially support students during semesters studying abroad or unpaid internships.

Konkol said in the release he believes the endowment for the fund is the largest single gift Hendricks Chapel has ever received.
