Syracuse was knocked out of last year's postseason in the second round but enters this season ranked No. 9 in the country.

Syracuse will open the season as the No. 9 team in the country, according to Inside Lacrosse’s preseason poll released Wednesday afternoon.

The Orange finished last season 13-3, falling to Towson in the second round of the NCAA tournament. Though SU has lost regular starters Jordan Evans, Nick Mariano, Sergio Salcido, Scott Firman and Evan Molloy, among others to graduation, it will return two of its top three scorers in Brendan Bomberry and Nate Solomon.

SU’s defensive line will also return Nick Mellen, who missed last season due to injury, easing the cushion on the back line that lost an All-American in Firman.

Syracuse comes in as the third Atlantic Coast Conference team in the preseason rankings, trailing No. 1 Duke and No. 5 Notre Dame. The Orange will play five of IL’s top seven teams, according to an SU Athletics press release.

The full-season slate has yet to be released, but SU will travel to Duke and host the Fighting Irish in 2018.
