Syracuse football recruiting: Linebacker Rashad Smith flips back to FAU from SU on Signing Day

Class of 2016 linebacker Rashad Smith has flipped back to Florida Atlantic, according to multiple media reports. He was committed to FAU until Jan. 24, when he changed his commitment to Syracuse. On National Signing Day on Wednesday, Smith switched back to the Owls.

He signed his letter of intent to play for Florida Atlantic, officially ending his recruitment.

Smith’s decommitment from Syracuse bumps the Orange’s 2016 class down to 21 members. So far, 16 players have signed their paperwork to officially join SU. Syracuse’s class is now down to three linebackers — Andrew Armstrong, Kenneth Ruff and Tim Walton — all of whom have signed their National Letter of Intent.

Homestead (Florida) High School’s Smith was ranked with three stars and as the 139th best outside linebacker in the 2016 class.
