Don't let the cold hold you captive this weekend when you could be auditioning for First Year Player's "Heathers: The Musical," entering a photo contest at the zoo or catching a performance of "Into the Woods."

Kick off the first weekend after starting classes with some quality movie time, Syracuse sports fandom or involvement in the arts. Avoid staying house-bound this winter by filling your weekends with the events Syracuse University and the local area have to offer.

Orange After Dark: Screening of “The Breakfast Club”

Whether you identify as a brain, beauty, jock, criminal or basket case, “The Breakfast Club” is an ‘80s teen film that anyone who has made it through high school can relate to. The John Hughes cult-classic will be screened at Gifford Auditorium in Huntington Beard Crouse Hall on Friday. Doors open at 11:30, and the movie starts at midnight.

After the Orange’s victory against Duke, you won’t want to miss what they’ll do next. Saturday at noon, they’re playing University of Virginia at the John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville. Though the game is 490 miles away, don’t miss out on a chance to throw a screening party in your dorm lounge or apartment if you have a TV.

Freshmen and transfer non-drama majors are eligible to be cast in the annual show. The musical is based off the novel “Heathers,” which is a about a girl attempting to overthrow the queen bee of her high school. To audition, show up prepared with a monologue to perform and 16-32 bars of a song to sing. There will also be a dance audition, so on their Facebook event FYP recommends bringing a change of clothes.
