Syracuse rides trio of goals to beat Lindenwood on road

Melissa Piacentini and Nicole Ferrara both finished with a goal and an assist for Syracuse (5-5, 3-1 College Hockey America) on Friday night as the Orange rode a trio of goals to down conference rival Lindenwood (3-5-1, 1-1-1), 3-1, at Lindenwood Ice Arena.

Syracuse struck first in the second period on a goal from sophomore Dakota Derrer, assisted by Danielle Leslie and Jessica Sibley.

It was Derrer’s second goal of the season.

Lindenwood answered back ten minutes later to knot the game at one with Britannia Gillanders’ goal, but the combination of SU seniors Piacentini and Ferrara helped propel the Orange ahead.

At the 6:31 mark of the third period, Piacentini scored off an assist from Ferrara. And 12 minutes later, it was Ferrara who scored off an assist from Piacentini to close out the win.

Both SU and Lindenwood put up 35 shots, and SU goalkeeper Jenn Gilligan amassed 24 saves.

With the win, Syracuse climbed back to .500 on the season. The Orange will look to continue its success on Saturday when it finishes its two-game series with Lindenwood at 3 p.m.
