Here are four takeaways from Monday night’s Student Association meeting in Maxwell Auditorium.

1. Uber letter not voted on

The SA assembly originally planned on voting Monday to approve sending a letter to the New York State Assembly arguing for the legalization of ride-hailing services, such as Uber, in New York state. However, the final version of the letter was not yet finished, as the student government at the University at Albany is currently making its revisions to the letter, which is jointly drafted between student governments at several schools in the state.

2. Bike-share program

SA’s bike-share program was supposed to launch last month, but Vice President Jane Hong said SA has hit a “couple road blocks.” Hong wants to ensure that the bikes will be available on a daily basis and that the program, if implemented, will be a permanent fixture on campus, rather than something the SA cabinet would need to approve funding for each semester.

3. Heat lamps

Heat lamps are currently being installed at the College Place bus stop, and Hong said they will be fully operational within the next week. The installation of heat lamps was an initiative started last fall by the student life committee, which current SA President Aysha Seedat was then the director of.

4. Student governing bodies to meet

Hong and Seedat will be meeting Tuesday night with presidents and some vice presidents of different student governing bodies at Syracuse University and SUNY-ESF. Presidents and selected vice presidents will be present from SA, the Student Bar Association, the Graduation Student Organization, the Residence Hall Association, ESF’s Undergraduate Student Association and ESF’s Graduate Student Association. Hong said they will begin planning for next semester’s Cuse Conference, a conference meant to bridge the gap between students, faculty and administrators.
