Juice Jam took place on Skytop Field Sunday. With two acts on the Indie stage and the other, bigger names on the main stage, the musical event of the fall was full of loud students, high-energy performers and wild dancing. Here are three quick thoughts on this year’s Juice Jam.

Moment of the Day

The moment of the day was the end of Big Sean’s set. From sharing a personal story about his grandmother, Mildred Leonard, to leading the crowd in a chant to “I Don’t F*ck With You,” Big Sean’s set brought energy out of a crowd that had been waiting for him for hours. From dropping lines to rolling out life advice, his hour long set was the much needed end to a day in the cold and rain.

Kim of Matt & Kim

The third act to go on at the event was Brooklyn-based duo Matt and Kim. Known for their high energy, these two are music fest must-haves. Throughout the set, Kim hopped off her drumset, slid the drumstick between her legs, let Matt slap her on the behind and twerked while standing on a crowd of college students.

That’s right. Kim trusted a crowd of kids to hold her by her ankles and twerk. She raged. She was raw. Matt was the rock as Kim pounced around the stage. And, not to mention, before performing their song “Daylight” she left the men in the audience with some advice:

“Gentleman, you need to know, pussy runs everything. The better you know that the more you’ll get laid.” Which lands Kim in the top spot for quote of the day.

iLoveMakonnen’s technical difficulties

OK, so it’s safe to assume that no artists wants their music to cut out between verses, but that’s exactly what happened to iLoveMakonnen as he started singing the lines to “I Don’t Sell Molly No Mo.” The music stopped, the crowd stopped. But after a split-second of looking around the stage for an answer, iLoveMakonnen, whose real name is Makonnen Sheran, hopped off the front and into the arms of screaming girls and boys. He took selfies, he hugged crowdgoers and he talked to a few lucky ones before getting back to his set. He dealt with the situation gracefully and made the best out of it. Then he came back, with a tease to his hit song “Tuesday.”
