AJ Long has his throwing hand in a cast, but Scott Shafer expects the sophomore quarterback to be ready for preseason camp.

Sophomore quarterback AJ Long has his right hand in a cast due to a broken bone, per Syracuse.com. Long is listed as the third-string quarterback on the preseason depth chart behind senior Terrel Hunt and sophomore Austin Wilson.

SU head coach Scott Shafer told Syracuse.com that he expects Long to be ready for preseason camp.

Last season, Long stepped in for the injured Hunt, completing 89-of-165 passes for 935 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran for as many touchdowns – two – as all the Syracuse running backs combined. Long’s debut came against then-No. 1 Florida State, when he connected on 59.3 percent of his passes for two touchdowns to fellow freshman Steve Ishmael.

The Orange has six quarterbacks on its roster, also carrying freshmen Eric Dungey and Kenterius Womack, along with sophomore walk-on Zack Mahoney in addition to the aforementioned three.
