Group discusses budget for fall 2015 semester

SA held budgetary hearings addressing allocation recommendations for the fall 2015 semester during its meeting Monday night at Maxwell Auditorium.

Comptroller Patrick Douglas presented the finance board’s recommendations to the assembly during the meeting. The assembly approved all of the board’s recommendations.

In total, more than $3 million was requested for fall 2015 programming, according to budget minutes obtained by The Daily Orange. The finance board funded $2,246,726.11 for the upcoming semester, according to the minutes.

Douglas slowly took the assembly through the budget during the meeting, explaining reasons for specific funding and answering questions.

The assembly first went through and approved the operating bills of student organizations. They then went through and approved university programming board bills. They also approved bills that are non-, partially and fully funded during the meeting.

University Union received the full $33,933.60 that it requested for Mayfest 2015 in the budget, according to the minutes. Some of the fully funded bills included the Debate Union’s budgetary requests of funding for tournaments and an Active Minds speaker event.

The finance board recommendations included cuts or alterations to requests when necessary. They also included explanations as to why cuts were made or why funds weren’t provided. Douglas said during the meeting that an organization could appeal any decision regarding its funding request beginning Tuesday.
