Syracuse has 5 named to All-South Region teams, Thomas invited to MLS Combine

Five Syracuse players were named to All-South Region teams by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America on Wednesday, the most selections out of any team in the region.

Junior goalkeeper Alex Bono and sophomore forward Emil Ekblom were named to the first team, while seniors Nick Perea, Skylar Thomas and Jordan Murrell were named to the second team.

Bono is the only goalie up for the national player of the year, as he totaled 12 shutouts and a 0.55 goals-against average this season. Ekblom led SU for the second straight year in both goals and total points, amassing eight and 19 this year, respectively.

Perea tied for second on the team with five goals, Murrell was first with seven assists and Thomas added two game-winning goals.

Thomas 1 of 55 seniors invited to MLS Combine

Thomas secured an invite to the Major League Soccer Combine, which will be held from Jan. 8-13 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Division I coaches from every conference and MLS coaches chose the 55 invitees. Representatives from all 20 MLS teams will be in attendance, and each senior will be eligible for selection in the Jan. 15 draft.

Thomas was the only SU senior invited and one of 20 defenders that will be attending.
