Syracuse head coach Ian McIntyre has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Coach of the Year and goalkeeper Alex Bono the ACC Defensive Player of the Year, the conference announced Thursday morning.

McIntyre is guiding No. 1 SU to its best season in program history with a 14-2-1 regular season record, with losses coming only to Notre Dame on Sept. 13 and Louisville on Oct. 17. Bono ranks tied for first in the nation in shutouts (12) and second in the country in save percentage (.899) and goals against average (.38).

Sophomore forward Emil Ekblom joined Bono on the All-ACC First Team. Ekblom led the Orange with seven goals and 17 points, and six of those seven goals were of the game-winning variety.

Senior defender Skylar Thomas and freshman midfielder Julian Buescher were named to the All-ACC Second Team. Thomas started each of the 16 games he played in and scored three goals, two of which came as game-winners against Virginia on Sept. 27 and Boston College on Oct. 31.

Buescher started each of the 17 games he played in, recording four assists – three of which set up game-winning goals – and playing a vital role at the attacking midfield position in SU’s offense.

The Orange (15-2-1, 5-2-1 ACC) will take on Lousiville (9-6-3, 4-3-1) in the ACC tournament semifinals on Friday at 8 p.m. at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina.
