Syracuse captures nation’s No. 1 ranking in latest NSCAA poll

Syracuse has garnered the No. 1 ranking in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll, which was released early Tuesday afternoon.

After holding onto a Top-10 spot for five consecutive weeks, the Orange (14-2-1, 5-2-1 Atlantic Coast) grabbed the top ranking in the country after a 2-1, double-overtime win against Boston College on Friday. SU also earned 11 of 24 first-place votes.

Ranked No. 3 last week, the Orange benefited from then-No. 1 UCLA losing and tying this past week, while then-No. 2 Indiana tied Wisconsin on Saturday to go along with a win over a nine-loss Evansville team on Wednesday. Indiana, Washington, Notre Dame and Charlotte round out the top five.

The Orange earned the No. 2 seed for the ACC tournament after winning the conference’s Atlantic Division. SU will play the winner of No. 10 North Carolina State and No. 7 Duke in the quarterfinals on Sunday at 1 p.m. at SU Soccer Stadium.
