Freshman quarterback Edouard to enroll in January

Syracuse quarterback Alin Edouard will enroll at SU in January. Head coach Scott Shafer told the news to Cuse.com in an interview posted on Monday and the freshman confirmed it to The Daily Orange in a text message.

Due to a personal matter back home in Miami, Edouard has not been able to join the Orange through training camp and the start of the season. The three-star recruit was unable to compete for the backup quarterback job, which was won by sophomore Austin Wilson over Mitch Kimble and freshman AJ Long.

“He and his family, they decided it was in his best interest to enroll to January at the mid-year,” Shafer said in the Cuse.com interview. “… We’re excited about the fact that that’s what he wants to do and it’ll give him a chance to still be a freshman, still have four years of eligibility.

“But what Alin will get to do is practice in spring ball, summer ball and then get started. Create a little natural separation between he and the other freshmen that are on the team now and will be sophomores.”
