Syracuse, IMG reportedly end contract with 7 years remaining

Syracuse University and sports marketing firm IMG ended their partnership with seven years remaining on their contract on Monday, the Post-Standard reported.

SU sent a letter to its sponsors notifying them that the contract had been terminated on July 1. There were no specific reasons for the break-up mentioned in the letter that was obtained by the Post-Standard. It didn’t rule out agreeing to a new contract with IMG, but said it was also looking into other options, including representing itself.

IMG paid SU to market Syracuse sports including football, men’s and women’s basketball, and coaches’ radio shows, since 1999, though it is not clear how much, the Post-Standard reported. IMG had been paying West Virginia University at least $7 million a year for similar services.

IMG also ran the men’s lacrosse play-by-play radio, its game programs, and Internet rights, according to the Post-Standard. It paid part of Director of Athletics Daryl Gross’ contract, as well as part of men’s basketball head coach Jim Boeheim’s compensation package.
