The Syracuse indoor track and field team finished its play at the Penn State National Invitational Saturday. SU distance runner Martin Hehir was one of the few stars for Syracuse, breaking the 3,000-meter school record with a run time of 7:49.40.

Six SU runners recorded a top-three finish. Junior Haley Cutright, however, was the only one to win a race. Cutright ran a 9:39.99 to win the women’s 3,000-meter competition.

Senior Donald Pollitt finished third in the 60-meter hurdles competition with a time of 7.89 seconds. Freshman Daniel Lennon came in second in the 5,000-meter run, running a 17:42.15, junior Juris Silenieks took third with a 14:34.57. Freshman Colin Bennie ran a 4:12.28 in the mile run to finish third.

For the women’s team, senior Alexandra Clinton was the only one other than Cutright to finish in the top-three. Clinton came in third running a 17:20.97 in the 5,000-meter run.

It was a slight drop-off from last year’s performance when SU had seven runners record top-three finishes.

The Syracuse men’s team went up against two schools in the Top-25; host Penn State’s team is ranked 7th and Stanford at 20th. The women’s team had to compete against No. 9 Stanford, No. 13 Dartmouth, No. 15 South Carolina, No. 20 Georgetown and No. 23 Villanova.

SU will look to improve before they face off in the New Balance Collegiate Invitational and Valentine Invitational Friday.
