Ford, Boles come in 2nd place in presidential race

Student Association presidential candidate Duane Ford said he’d be happy regardless of the outcome.

But he said this before receiving a phone call, informing him  he had not won the election.

“If I win, I’ll be happy because I know I’m going to do an amazing job, and if I lose, I’ll be happy because I can finally get some sleep,” he said with a laugh.

A short time after 12:30 a.m., Ford, the current SA vice president, learned that Boris Gresely had won the election. Ford came in second place by 196 votes.

The junior policy studies major ran on a platform focusing on three issues: diversity on campus, academic advising and tuition.

He gathered in the apartment of Nia Boles, his running mate, with about 15 supporters, who became emotional after Ford gave them the news. Ford remained positive about the outcome, and encouraged others to do the same. He added that the support he received meant more than any election ever could.

“The past year has taught me so much,” Ford said. “Regardless of what happens, these people have been so great.”

Ford said he would still work toward the goals he set during the campaign and while in SA.

“I don’t care if I’m president or not,” Ford said, “I’m going to change this school.”
