Syracuse ties for 8th in initial AP Top 25 poll

Syracuse is tied with Oklahoma State for the No. 8 spot in the Associated Press Top 25 poll’s initial 2013-14 rankings. The Orange is the second-highest ranked team in the Atlantic Coast Conference, trailing only No. 4 Duke. The Blue Devils received two first-place votes. SU didn’t receive any.

Syracuse is one of five ACC teams ranked in the Top 25 and one of two newcomers. Duke, No. 12 North Carolina and No. 24 Virginia represent the conference’s old teams while newcomers SU and No. 21 Notre Dame round out the poll for the ACC. Boston College and Pittsburgh each received votes with six and five, respectively.

Kentucky is the nation’s initial No. 1 team, followed by Michigan State, Louisville, the Blue Devils and Kansas. Michigan, which knocked off the Orange in the Final Four last season, is ranked one spot ahead of Syracuse.
