Syracuse schedules Orange Madness for Oct. 18

Orange Madness, Syracuse’s version of Midnight Madness, will take place in the Carrier Dome on Oct. 18 and be featured as part of ESPNU’s Midnight Madness telecast, SU Athletics announced in a press release Thursday.

Orange Madness, which ushers in basketball season, features scrimmages by both the men’s and women’s basketball teams, as well as a dunk contest. Admission is free to all students and $5 for the general public. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Monday.

The event will also feature a “nationally-known recording artist,” according to the release. The performer will be announced at a later date. The rapper Wale performed at Orange Madness last year.

Midnight Madness was formerly the first practice of basketball season, but this year Syracuse began practice on Sept. 27 after a national rule change moved up the date that teams can begin practice. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the event begins at 8 p.m.

The men’s basketball team opens its season with an exhibition against Division II Holy Family University on Nov. 1 and the regular season on Nov. 8 against Cornell. The women’s basketball team opens its regular season on Nov. 10 against Washington State in Pullman, Wash.
