FB : Robinson returns: University gives 4th year to head coach

Nov. 28, 5:08 p.m. — Greg Robinson will remain Syracuse’s head football coach for a fourth season, the university announced this afternoon in a news release.

Syracuse athletic director Daryl Gross stressed his disappointment with the Orange’s 2-10 campaign in 2007, but maintained Robinson deserves more time with his own recruits.

‘Despite our collective disappointment with this season, those I talked with agreed with me that stability is tremendously important to our program, specifically as it relates to recruiting, and stabilizing and building solid classes of student-athletes,’ Gross said in the release.

Robinson, who was hired in December 2004, has a career record of 7-28, 2-19 in the Big East.

‘I am committed to doing whatever it takes for our program to improve and regain the confidence of our community in 2008,’ Robinson said in the release. ‘There are clearly a number of key areas in which we need to make substantial progress. At the same time, I am evaluating what changes we need to make as a coaching staff to maximize the substantial talent we have on our roster to achieve success.’
