Syracuse freshman quarterback Eric Dungey left in the second quarter against Central Michigan after a helmet-to-helmet hit. He will not play against LSU on Saturday.

Freshman quarterback Eric Dungey is out for Syracuse’s Saturday date with Louisiana State, SU head coach Scott Shafer announced at a press conference Thursday.

Dungey was knocked out of the Orange’s (3-0, 1-0 Atlantic Coast) win over Central Michigan last Saturday, when CMU defensive lineman Mitch Stanitzek bowled into him for a helmet-to-helmet hit with 9:20 left in the second quarter. Dungey’s injury has been classified as an “upper-body injury.” Shafer said he had breakfast with Dungey Thursday morning and that he’s doing better.

In his place, Syracuse will start sophomore walk-on Zack Mahoney against the No. 8 Tigers (2-0, 2-0 Southeastern). Shafer added that all available quarterbacks will be options in the game, which includes sophomores Austin Wilson and A.J. Long.

Kickoff is set for noon and the game will be broadcast on ESPN.
