Syracuse football recruiting: Quarterback commit Rex Culpepper reportedly tears ACL

Class of 2016 commit Rex Culpepper tore his ACL during a 7-on-7 tournament on Saturday and will miss his senior season, per multiple media reports. Corey Bender of Scout.com first reported the news.

Culpepper is still planning on enrolling in January, according to Syracuse.com.

The Plant (Florida) High School quarterback verbally committed to the Orange in June over offers from Ohio State, Florida and Clemson and is the only quarterback in SU’s 2016 class. He threw for 2,016 yards and 20 touchdowns as a junior, per MaxPreps.com and is ranked as the 25th-best pro-style quarterback in his class by 247Sports.com’s composite rankings.

Syracuse’s current roster includes six quarterbacks — senior Terrel Hunt, sophomores AJ Long and Austin Wilson, freshmen Eric Dungey and Kenterius Womack and sophomore walk-on Zack Mahoney.
