Chairman of SU's Board of Trustees supports university considering its options to appeal NCAA penalties

Chairman Richard Thompson said the university has taken responsibility for past violations, and has self-imposed a set of serious penalties. However, Thompson said the university believes, “a number of the penalties instituted by the NCAA are excessive, and I support the University’s decision to consider its options for appeal.” Read more »

The investigation does not involve any current student-athletes, and dates back to 2007 when SU self-reported possible violations within the athletics department. Academic violations detailed in the report involve athletes receiving impermissible assistance from tutors and mentors. Miss America 2014 to speak at SU in April about diversity

Nina Davuluri, who lives in nearby Fayetteville, New York, will give a lecture titled, “Celebrating Diversity through Cultural Competency,” according to a syracuse.com article. She was the first-Indian-American crowned Miss New York, and eventually became the first Miss America of Indian heritage. Read more »
