Syracuse University will add a new transportation route running from SU’s South Campus to the Nancy Cantor Warehouse, according to a university spokesperson.

The new route will feature a passenger van shuttle beginning on Monday from Goldstein Student Center. The van will run Monday through Friday from 7:15 a.m. to 9 p.m. with service approximately every 20 minutes, the spokesperson confirmed to The Daily Orange Monday afternoon.

In January, SU discontinued its trolley Warehouse Loop due to a large demand of rides requested by students for the university’s safety escort service. The Warehouse Loop was initially fully replaced on January 30 with a route that extended through Euclid Avenue but did not include a stop at the Warehouse.

The new Euclid Loop ran from 7:45 p.m. to 3:15 a.m. every day of the week, but the change meant the last shuttle leaving the Warehouse was 7:43 p.m. on weekdays.

Students enrolled in SU’s College of Visual and Performing Arts who take classes at the Warehouse have voiced their concerns about the lack of transportation being an added obstacle on top of out-of-pocket expenses for necessary class materials.

Three days after the decision to discontinue the Warehouse Loop, SU announced an update to the new Euclid loop to include a stop at the Warehouse, according to a Feb. 2 SU News release. Shuttles in the Euclid Loop are scheduled to arrive at the Warehouse every 40 to 45 minutes to transport students and faculty back to campus, according to the release.

Transportation delays and cancellations continued throughout last spring. SU’s Office of Parking and Transportation Services advised the university community that ongoing disruptions to normal trolley services would continue for the rest of the spring 2023 semester.

This fall, PTS also changed a policy to its escort service, requiring students to use an SU campus address as either a pick-up or drop-off location in order to request a ride. The new policy, which began on August 14, was made in an effort to decrease wait times for users, according to its website.
