#NotAgainSU enters fourth day of Crouse-Hinds Hall sit-in

The movement will continue its occupation of Crouse-Hinds until its demands are met, #NotAgainSU organizers said at a forum Wednesday.
#NotAgainSU organizers are continuing the movement’s sit-in at Crouse-Hinds Hall for a fourth day. Crouse-Hinds reopened Thursday morning after being sealed off as of Tuesday.
The movement, led by Black students, began the sit-in Monday at noon to continue its protest of at least 26 racist, anti-Semitic and bias-related incidents that have occurred at or near Syracuse University since early November.
The Department of Public Safety had sealed off Crouse-Hinds as of Tuesday morning, after the university placed more than 30 #NotAgainSU organizers inside under interim suspension for remaining in the building past closing. Chancellor Kent Syverud announced Wednesday that SU would lift the suspensions.
The movement will continue its occupation of Crouse-Hinds until its demands are met, #NotAgainSU organizers said at a forum Wednesday.
“The reason for us being here is not to evade penalty,” an organizer said. “We are moving to engage in negotiations with the administration so we can discuss the terms of how they’ll implement our demands.”
#NotAgainSU initially presented Syverud with 19 demands in November. Syverud signed 16 of the demands in November and revised three. The movement on Monday added six new demands, amended five and retracted one.
Students, faculty and Syracuse community members remained outside the building in support of the movement throughout Tuesday and Wednesday. Once the building reopened Thursday morning, faculty and staff entered the building to speak with and provide support to organizers.
Protesters continue to call for the resignation of Syverud and three other university officials by Friday. The movement marched to present letters of resignation to the officials in December, initially demanding they resign by Jan. 13.
The university announced Wednesday night that organizers are allowed to remain in Crouse-Hinds past closing, but will not be able to re-enter the building until it reopens at 7 a.m. if they leave while the building is closed.
