Pat Burak, who has led Syracuse University’s Slutzker Center for International Services as director for more than 30 years, is stepping down from her role to take a full-time teaching position in the College of Arts and Sciences, an SU official announced in an email Monday.

George Athanas, an assistant director in the Office of Residence Life, will fill the position as interim director while SU conducts a national search for Burak’s replacement, said Robert Hradsky, SU’s dean of students, in an email to the Slutzker Center Listserv.

Burak began teaching in the College of Arts and Sciences in 1984, according to an SU News release Hradsky shared in the email. Since coming to SU, Burak has taught in the university’s Department of Languages, Literature and Linguistics and the Renée Crown University Honors Program.

SU’s Division of Enrollment and the Student Experience is working to improve international student services and internationalization as part of the university’s Academic Strategic Plan, according to the release.
