Syracuse earns No. 2 seed in NCAA tournament, plays winner of Siena, Bryant in 1st round

No. 4 Syracuse (11-4, 2-3 Atlantic Coast) has earned the No. 2 seed in the NCAA tournament and will play the winner of Bryant (14-4, 5-1 Northeast) and Siena (11-5, 6-0 Metro Atlantic Athletic) on Sunday at 7:30 in the Carrier Dome.

In SU’s season opener on Feb. 10, the Orange handled Siena 19-7 at the Carrier Dome. If Syracuse advances, it will play either Cornell or No. 7 seed and fellow ACC team Maryland on May 17 in the quarterfinals in Hempstead, N.Y.

Every ACC team qualified for the tournament with Duke taking the top seed. Notre Dame and Virginia earned the No. 6 and No. 8 seeds respectively. North Carolina qualified as an unseeded team.

With losses against Maryland, Virginia and Duke, the Orange needed a stellar stretch at the end of the season – including a double-overtime victory against North Carolina and an ACC tournament semifinal win against Duke – to improve its NCAA tournament resume.

SU concluded its season with a 19-6 win over Colgate on Saturday.
