Former SU tennis coach passes away

Former Syracuse tennis coach Jesse Dwire died Nov. 24. He was 56.

Dwire coached the Orangewomen from 1978 to 1999. He was named Big East Coach of the Year in 1995. Dwire, a resident of Camillus, is survived by his wife, Diane, and his son, Jesse.

Syracuse finished the IC4A Championship in second place, its highest finish since 1995, as Jon Bitok came in second place for the Orangemen.

Bitok, a senior, finished the five-mile race in 25:22, 32 seconds behind the winner, New Hampshire’s Stephen Meinelt. Sophomore Chris Muldoon and freshman David Wishart finished second and third, respectively, for SU.



In the University Division Race of the ECAC Championship, junior Christine Ramsey finished in 12th place, completing the 5K course in 19:14, as the Orangewomen finished fifth of 15 teams. Senior Lauren Rich finished second for SU, 16th overall, running in 19:20.
