Syracuse softball’s Friday game against No. 9 Florida State has been postponed due to inclement weather in central New York. The remaining three games of the series against the Seminoles — two on Saturday, one on Sunday — are still scheduled to be played. 

The series marks Syracuse’s first Atlantic Coast Conference home series since the two teams played in May 2019.

The Orange (15-11, 8-8 ACC) spent last weekend in Brighton, Massachusetts, splitting a four-game series against Boston College, which now has a 4-13 record in ACC play. The Eagles’ two-game sweep on Saturday snapped SU’s nine-game winning streak — its longest since 2018.

Syracuse’s stop-and-start season of 11 postponed or canceled games, combined with a lack of offseason preparation, has contributed to hitting struggles. SU’s hitting a combined .234, a mark that’s 12th out of 13 teams in the ACC. The Orange have a conference-worst .307 on-base percentage.

“I think a lot of it is we are asking these kids to play a 50-game season with a month and two weeks of practice, and then in between, we had two months off to go home and sit and do nothing,” head coach Shannon Doepking said.

Despite this, fifth-year senior Alexa Romero has compiled a 2.13 ERA, allowing just a .188 batting average from opposing hitters. She and Kaia Oliver lead the Orange with five complete games each.

Florida State has only lost two games in conference play, both at the hands of No. 15 Virginia Tech. SU is scheduled to play a doubleheader Saturday, with games at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
