UU announces Homecoming comedy night lineup

University Union, in partnership with the Traditions Commission, will present performers Michael Che, Cipha Sounds and Rosebud Baker for a night of comedy on Sept. 13. at Goldstein Auditorium, UU announced Thursday night. Doors open at 7:15 p.m. with the show starting at 8 p.m.

Michael Che came to prominence while working on skit-comedy show, “Saturday Night Live,” where he is now co-anchor of “Weekend Update,” and a writer for the program. Che has worked for SNL since 2013 but in recent years he has embarked on solo-ventures like his 2016 Netflix comedy special, “Michael Che Matter,” where he jokes about topics revolving police brutality, guns and the Black Lives Matter movement.

Cipha Sounds is known for his comedy chops but is also a DJ from Puerto Rican descent. Sounds also the host for radio station HOT 97 for 17 years until 2015, according to the Daily News. Since 2015, Sounds has starred as a DJ in Netflix’s show, “Characters” where a slew of comedians are given an episode of their own TV show plot.

Along for the comedy night is Rosebud Baker is a New York-based comedian and recently was selected as the New Face of Comedy at Montreal’s Just For Laughs Comedy Festival. This past summer she performed alongside comedians John Mulaney and Amy Poehler at Comedy Central’s Clusterfest in San Francisco.

Tickets for the show are $5 for SU and SUNY ESF students, $10 for alumni, faculty and staff and $15 for general public. Tickets will be available for purchase starting next week online. General public tickets can be bought at the Women’s Building box office.
