Syracuse most recently lost to North Carolina on the road.

After dropping its only game of the week to No. 3 North Carolina, Syracuse (13-3, 5-2 Atlantic Coast) fell two spots to No. 5 in the Inside Lacrosse poll released on Monday.

The Orange had held firm at No. 3 in the previous weeks and won seven-straight games heading into Saturday’s contest versus the Tar Heels. Against UNC, however, Syracuse lost by the largest margin it has all season. SU kept the game close early, and a Morgan Alexander goal with just under 13 minutes left in the first half tied the game at 3. But North Carolina blew out the Orange the rest of the way, outscoring them 8-2 in the final 40 minutes of the game.

With the release of this week’s rankings, Syracuse’s three losses this season have all come to the current top-three teams. Boston College has held the top spot in the rankings all season long and defeated SU on Feb. 16, while No. 2 Maryland took down the Orange in overtime on March 9. Syracuse beat Notre Dame, the fourth-ranked team in this week’s poll, by one goal three weeks ago.

SU’s final game of the regular season is on Tuesday, when it will take on in-state rival Cornell in the Carrier Dome.
