SU dorms among top Uber locations in Syracuse

Syracuse University’s dorms landed in the top ten most popular Uber destinations in Syracuse during the company’s first year operating in the city.

SU lost first place to the Syracuse Hancock International Airport. But students living in Day and Flint Halls hailed enough rides to land Mount Olympus, with its lengthy set of stairs, in both second and third place.

A total of six dorms made it on the list, which was provided by an Uber spokesperson. All of them typically house freshmen.

After Day and Flint, the most popular dorms were, in descending order: Lawrinson Hall, Brewster Hall and Sadler Hall. SU’s Sheraton Syracuse University Hotel, which houses some students, made it to ninth on the list.

According to Uber, the longest trip from Syracuse in the past year was 336 miles. The trip, which went from Syracuse to Massachusetts, was so costly that the Uber app doesn’t display the price.

Ride-hailing services like Uber and Lyft were legalized in upstate New York last June. Uber had spent years lobbying the state Legislature to allow operations outside of New York City.

To celebrate its one-year anniversary, Uber is giving its highest-rated riders in upstate New York a $10 credit, valid for the Fourth of July weekend. The competition might be stiff in Syracuse: Its riders have an average rating of 4.9 out of 5.
