Syracuse linebacker Parris Bennett was named Atlantic Coast Conference linebacker of the week after Syracuse’s (2-2) 35-26 loss at No. 25 Louisiana State (3-1, 0-1 Southeastern), the ACC announced on Monday morning.

Bennett recorded a season-high 12 tackles against LSU, including a career-best three for a loss. The 6-foot, 216-pound former tight end was also credited with a safety, a pass breakup and a quarterback hurry. The senior’s pass rushing had a visible effect on LSU quarterbacks, including when Myles Brennan threw a fourth-quarter interception after shying away from Bennett as the SU linebacker bore down on him.

Teammate and fellow linebacker Zaire Franklin called him the “MVP” after the game in which Bennett led Syracuse’s defense to holding LSU to just 11 yards in the first quarter and 151 rushing yards overall, which is 66 fewer than the Tigers’ season average. Bennett also tackled LSU running back Darrel Williams in the end zone for a safety in the third quarter.
