Will Amba Etta-Tawo lead the nation in receiving yards entering Week 5? Watch these receivers to find out

Amba Etta-Tawo has helped Syracuse grab wins over Colgate and Connecticut this season. He has 706 yards.

Amba Etta-Tawo had his fourth consecutive 100-yard game (a Syracuse football program first) of the season in SU’s 31-24 win over Connecticut. He broke the Syracuse record for yards in a game with his 270-yard performance, which pushed his total for the season to 706 yards.

The record stood for 31 years and had been held by Scott Schwedes, who had 249 yards in a 1985 game. Etta-Tawo is now on pace for over 2,100 receiving yards this season. SU’s top target had more receiving yards in Saturday’s game than he did in each of his 2014 and 2015 seasons at Maryland.

So, how likely are the rest of the nation’s receivers to catch Etta-Tawo?

Maybe

Chad Hansen, California, 546 yards

Game: California at Arizona State, 10 p.m., ESPN2

Analysis: There’s a chance Hansen comes close to Etta-Tawo. Cal and ASU play a lot of offense and not so much defense. Hansen is averaging 182 yards per game, and is 160 yards away from Etta-Tawo.

MORE COVERAGE:

Probably not

Trent Taylor, Louisiana Tech, 422 yards

Game: Louisiana Tech at Middle Tennessee State, 7 p.m.

Analysis: Taylor would have to outdo Etta-Tawo to pass him. That would be a sight to see between MTSU and Louisiana Tech, but is unlikely. The 284 yards he’d need seem too far out of reach.

James Washington, Oklahoma State, 399 yards

Game: Oklahoma State at Baylor, 7:30 p.m., FOX

Analysis: This goes for most of the ones that follow: They’d have to have an even more ridiculous game than Etta-Tawo, who will likely lead the nation in receiving yards for the week.

Jerome Lane, Akron, 354 yards*

Game: Akron vs. Appalachian State, 3:30 p.m., ESPN3

Analysis: With six minutes to play in the fourth quarter, Lane had 134 yards. That would mean he needs to somehow turn up 218 yards in the game’s final minutes. That’s a lot of yards and extremely unlikely.

Nicholas Norris, Western Kentucky, 354 yards*

Game: Western Kentucky vs. Vanderbilt, 4:30 p.m., CBS Sports Network

Analysis: Norris has 36 yards midway through the third quarter. He needs 316 yards the rest of the game.

Definitely not

Cody Thompson, Toledo, 361 yards

Game: Bye week

Analysis: He’s 345 yards away. And with no game to play this week, Thompson has no shot to catch Etta-Tawo.
