The Daily Orange is the student-run campus newspaper of Syracuse University. Founded in 1903, the newspaper became independent from the university in 1971- which means we do not receive any money or oversight from the university - and has remained independent since then. The D.O. prints Monday through Thursday during the entire academic year and has a staff of over 30 editors.
In order for students to get the most out of their time at the paper, and best prepare for the professional world after The Daily Orange, there are projects that would benefit from more funding. These are goals that will enhance The D.O. as a valued learning institution. Below is a list of projects that you can donate toward to expand the education of our students, and so The Daily Orange can continue to be one of the best college newspapers in the nation. We greatly appreciate any contribution that you are able to make.

Below is a wish list of projects that you can donate toward to expand the education of our students, and so The Daily Orange can continue to be one of the best college newspapers in the nation. Our Wish List includes staff salaries, the sports travel fund, web development, Adobe Cloud Software and a archiving. We greatly appreciate any contribution that you are able to make.
As has been the case for a while, staff salaries remain one of The D.O.’s biggest expenses. Our staff works countless hours to provide extensive and thorough coverage of Syracuse University and the greater Syracuse community. Last year The D.O. launched an expanded editorial team that included five additional web editors. This year we’re adding an additional video editor to help expand our video content. All this comes at an expense and we need to ensure the most talented staff members are able to work regardless of their financial situation. We would like to raise $9,000 for this project.Goal: $9,000
Sports Travel Fund
Traveling to Syracuse away games is an opportunity that has set The D.O's sports coverage apart from other publications. In the past year, The D.O. Sports staff went on 41 road trips and traveled to a total of 17 states and two countries to provide our readers with the in-depth, compelling coverage of Syracuse teams, including five Final Fours and two National Championship games. To support our staff’s dedication to doing the best work possible, D.O. sports has to be able to continue to travel to away games. We would like to raise $4,000 for this project.Goal: $4,000
The D.O.’s existing website does the job when it comes to displaying our stories. But we want to push past what is acceptable and make sure we are on par with the evolving digital curve. To do that, The D.O. is in the process of developing an app. That comes at a cost, however. We have a talented group working on the app’s development and need the sufficient funds in order to continue its evolution. The app can really push The D.O.’s digital content forward in a way not seen at many other college newspapers. We would like to raise $3,000 for this project.Goal: $3,000
Adobe Cloud Software
Because of the gracious support from people like you, The D.O. was able to update its outdated copies of InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop through last year’s Wish List. To keep the programs updated, we would like to raise another $2,100 as it’s an annual expense. The D.O. is home to one of the top design staffs in the U.S., consistently winning major awards in various competitions. We’re continuing to enhance our visual presentation and need these updated programs to do so.Goal: $2,100
The preservation of our newspapers is integral to The D.O. as a learning institution and as a resource for current staff members, alumni and the Syracuse community. These papers carry more than 100 years of historical significance for Syracuse University and the surrounding city of Syracuse while posing as tangible examples of The D.O.’s progression as a news organization. It is for these reasons that we are committed to making these papers accessible and have formed a plan to organize, scan and upload the papers that make up the existing D.O. archives online. We would like to raise $1,000 for this project.Goal: $1,000
