For a third-straight quarter, Syracuse University reported $60,000 in total lobbying for the fourth quarter of 2015.

For the third-straight quarter, Syracuse University reported lobbying activity related to the Federal Perkins Loan Program.

The university reported $60,000 in total lobbying activity for the fourth quarter of 2015, the same amount reported as the second and third quarter. The fourth quarter report covered from Oct. 1, 2015 through Dec. 31, 2015. During 2015, SU lobbied for a total of $250,000, which is the same amount compared to the total amount lobbied in 2014.

In the third quarter of 2015, SU officials “urged” the reauthorization of the Federal Perkins Loan Program, which expired in October and has not yet been reauthorized by the federal government. About 25 percent of undergraduate students at SU use the program.

In the report filed Wednesday, SU reported asking Congress for the loan program to be continued as a part of the appropriations process, which is essentially the making of a budget by the federal legislator.

The activity relating to the loan program was the only activity reported by the university. A majority of SU’s lobbying money goes toward the salaries of full-time government relations’ staffers at the university.

Eric Persons, the associate vice president of government and community relations, did not return an email Wednesday requesting comment on the lobbying activity.

Daniel J. French & Associates, a firm hired by SU to lobby, did not release a lobbying report for the fourth quarter as of Wednesday.

The first quarter of 2016 runs from Jan. 1 to March 31 with a filing date of April 20.
