Julian Whigham (1) left Syracuse's game against Boston College with a lower-body injury and will not return, ending his Syracuse career.

Senior defensive back Julian Whigham will not return against Boston College because of a lower-body injury, Syracuse Athletics announced. The injury ends Whigham’s career at SU. He left the field on crutches.

The lower-body injury happened when he tried to stop Eagles running back Tyler Rouse near the end zone. Rouse gained 21 yards on the play and then put Boston College up, 7-0, on the next play. SU eventually tied the game.

Earlier in the season, now-fired head coach Scott Shafer and his staff moved Whigham down the depth chart at cornerback and he played at safety, too.

“Productivity on game day, or lack thereof,” Shafer said at the time, “is probably the biggest component when we make those decisions.”

Whigham finishes his career having played in 43 games and tallying 65 tackles, 12 pass deflections and four interceptions.
