Police identify 15-year-old victim killed in Wednesday night shooting

Syracuse police have identified the 15-year-old killed last night as Zavion Escobar. The investigation is ongoing.

The Syracuse Police Department has identified the 15-year-old killed Wednesday night in a shooting on Hope Avenue as Zavion Escobar.

The homicide took place around 7:20 p.m. Wednesday night at 148 Hope Ave., about two miles away from Syracuse University. Escobar was shot and killed and a 17-year-old, who has not been identified, was shot in the leg. The suspects in the case fled the scene to Oakwood Cemetery near the SU campus, prompting the university to lock down campus.

The investigation into the case is ongoing, according to an SPD press release, and the suspects have not been taken into custody.
