DPS is looking to crack down on speeding on South Campus as well as the lack of attention to stop signs.

The Department of Public Safety is distributing pamphlets on South Campus in a general response to high driving speeds and lack of attention to stop signs.

The pamphlet, titled “Traffic Safety on South Campus,” goes over the dangers of Driving While Intoxicated, DPS traffic stops, stop signs and speeding, among other things. The high driving speeds and lack of attention to stop signs are a “relatively common and cyclical issue each academic year,” said Hannah Warren, DPS’s public information officer.

The speed limits on South Campus range from 15 mph to 30 mph. Warren said enforcement of speed limits and other traffic laws on South Campus may be a higher priority for officers working the South Campus posts.

“There is no extreme change planned, just that traffic safety will be an area where we focus slightly more attention,” she said.

Under the “Rules of the Road” section of the pamphlet, it tells drivers that “when you drive a motor vehicle, on or off campus, you represent Syracuse University.”
