Alzheimer’s Association CNY Chapter CEO thanks Syracuse University community for support

It’s difficult to express in such a small space how appreciative the Alzheimer’s Association is for the support of the Syracuse University community at the 2015 Walk to End Alzheimer’s. This year’s event was the largest in its 25-year history, as more than 1,700 individuals gathered at Long Branch Park on October 3 and helped us raise more than $220,000 to support Alzheimer’s care programs and research. It marks the first time that the walk has ever raised more than $200,000.

SU students raised more than $3,300 for the event, $1,015 of which was contributed by senior Alexandra Mitchell from the SU Alzheimer’s Student Organization. This student organization not only fundraised, but volunteered at the event, joining the Circle K student group and the Syracuse University Women’s Hockey team. We thank them all for their time and efforts.

Alzheimer’s disease affects more than 5 million Americans, including 380,000 in New York State. This year’s record-breaking event helped bring us another step closer to a cure, while ensuring that families touched by this disease have access to high-quality programs and support. Our sea of purple t-shirts walking that was accented by orange, and for that, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Sincerely,
Cathy James, Chief Executive Officer
Alzheimer’s Association, Central New York Chapter
