Brisly Estime caught a 40-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter for his third touchdown of the year. His stock is on the rise despite SU's loss to LSU.

Syracuse (3-1, 1-0 Atlantic Coast) lost 34-24 to No. 8 Louisiana State (3-0, 2-0 Southeastern) on Saturday. The Orange cut LSU’s lead to seven twice in the third quarter, but the Tigers eventually pulled away. Here’s a look at which direction some SU players are trending.

Stock Up

Brisly Estime, junior wide receiver

Estime was Syracuse’s most dynamic player on Saturday, accounting for 261 all-purpose yards. His 40-yard touchdown reception from Zack Mahoney was twice as long as any other Syracuse offensive play the entire game and brought the Orange within seven points in the third quarter.

His first four returns, two kickoffs and two punts, in the first half totaled 106 yards and gave the Orange an average starting field position at SU’s own 39-yard line after those returns. At halftime, Syracuse had more return yards than offensive yards (93).

Antwan Cordy, sophomore safety

On the first play of the Tigers’ third drive, Cordy sacked quarterback Brandon Harris for a loss of 11 yards. Two plays later, he broke up a pass to Malachi Dupre on third-and-15, forcing LSU to go three-and-out for the first time.

With Syracuse trailing 24-17 in the fourth quarter, Cordy made three straight tackles, including a take down of running back Leonard Fournette 6 yards behind the line of scrimmage. Cordy led the team with eight tackles and two and a half tackles for loss.

Stock Down

Julian Whigham, senior cornerback

After Cordy’s three straight tackles, SU had the Tigers on the ropes facing a third-and-9 from their own 38-yard line. But Harris threw a 51-yard bomb to Travin Dural, who burned Whigham over the top.

On the next play, from the Orange’s 11-yard line, Harris hit Dupre in the right corner of the end zone on a fade route that floated right over Whigham. The back-to-back plays put LSU in the driver’s seat for the remainder of the game and highlighted Whigham’s deficiencies.

Seamus Shanley, senior offensive guard

After starting the first three games at right guard, the walk-on was relegated to a backup role against LSU. Center Rob Trudo, who missed last week against Central Michigan, returned to action at right guard. Jason Emerich, who subbed in last week for Trudo, remained at center and Trudo’s position change forced Shanley out of the lineup.
