Steve Ishmael was back practicing with Syracuse following a knee bruise during Tuesday's practice.

FORT DRUM, N.Y. — Starting Syracuse wide receiver Steve Ishmael participated fully in the open portion of practice on Wednesday afternoon.

Ishmael bruised his left knee on Tuesday in a collision with Andrejas Duerig while trying to catch an errant punt by Riley Dixon. After Tuesday’s practice head coach Scott Shafer said Ishmael’s injury wasn’t serious.

Ishmael was back on the field Wednesday, but didn’t work with the punt receivers. Freshman running back Dontae Strickland, freshman running back Jordan Fredericks, redshirt freshman Rodney Williams, sophomore safety Antwan Cordy, sophomore Ervin Philips and junior Brisly Estime all worked on catching punts.

Other observations from Wednesday’s practice

  • Junior defensive end Ron Thompson rode a stationary bike and only used his hands during the beginning of Wednesday’s practice. Shafer said on Friday that Thompson will be out a couple weeks with a lower-body injury.
  • Sophomore quarterback AJ Long was also limited and didn’t partake in a quarterback-center exchange drill. He hasn’t played in this drill over the past several days.
  • SU ran a fake field goal on the first play of its field goal practice on Wednesday, similar to what the Orange did on Monday. Dixon, the team’s primary holder, picked up the ball to throw, but again it fell incomplete.
