Juice Jam 2015

5 things to know about Matt and Kim

University Union has officially announced the full lineup for Juice Jam 2015. Brooklyn-based artists Matt and Kim will be one of the artists taking the stage at the fall festival on September 13. Here are five facts that you should know about the indie dance electric-pop duo.

1. Yes, they’re dating

When they were both students at the Pratt Institute of New York in Brooklyn, keyboardist/vocalist Matt Johnson and drummer/vocalist Kim Schifino met and decided to form their duo, playing any and all shows they could book in the area. The two started dating and in a Reddit AMA two years ago, Kim responded to a user that asked about the moment they knew they wanted to be together. “When i saw him walking across campus! -k”

They even share a Twitter, tweeting under the handle @mattandkim. They’re goals. Literally goals.

2. If you watch TV, you’ve probably heard them before

Though Matt and Kim haven’t topped the mainstream charts like other artists in the Juice Jam lineup, their most popular songs are easily recognizable from television commercials. Their first appearance was in 2009, when their song “Daylight” was featured in a Bacardi commercial and a Mars Bar commercial. Now, they’ve teamed up with Acura to advertise the 2016 ILX.

3. They’ve been to Syracuse before

The two played at the Westcott Theater on Oct. 4, 2012 to a sold-out show, two days after a ceiling tile collapsed from the roof. Juice Jam 2015 will be their second time making an appearance in the Salt City.

4. They LOVE music festivals

In their almost ten year career, the two have performed in more music festivals than their own headlining tours. From Free Press Summer Fest in Houston, Texas to Groovin’ the Moo, an Australian based traveling festival, Matt and Kim have had their fair share of long nights in tour buses and jet planes. You may also recognize them from Sandy Parts Festival, Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, Firefly Music Festival, Summerfest, Party in the Park and more.

5. They have a soft spot for animals

On their New Glow tour earlier this year, Matt and Kim invited the Stray Rescue of St. Louis to have an Information table at their St. Louis concert to raise awareness about animal protectionism and no kill animal shelters. They even held raffles to win a shirt that Kim would wear during the show, with tickets going for $1 and all proceeds going towards Stray Rescue.
