Syracuse’s Kevin Rice and Brandon Mullins have been named first-team All-Americans by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association, which announced all its Division I All-Americans Thursday morning.

Nine other SU players were honored on the second, third and honorable mention teams. Midfielder Nicky Galasso and faceoff specialist Ben Williams were named second-team All-Americans, while attack Dylan Donahue was named to the third team. Six players — attack Randy Staats, midfielders Hakeem Lecky, Henry Schoonmaker and Peter Macartney, along with defender Sean Young and goalie Bobby Wardwell — received honorable mention accolades.

Rice led the Orange with 84 points, including a team-high 48 assists. His point total was the most for an SU player in a single season in 11 years and his assists were the most in 15. Mullins led a defense that allowed less than 10 goals per game and held seven ranked teams under double digits.

After a stretch of many poor seasons at the faceoff X for Syracuse, the arrival of Williams changed that He won 67.4 percent of his attempts at the X. His success rate was second in the nation, and significantly better than the Orange’s last two seasons, when SU failed to control more than half of its attempts in either year.

Galasso tied for second on Syracuse with 36 goals, 23 more than he had last year, and led a first-line midfield group that posted 70 goals.

Syracuse’s season ended with a 16-15 loss to Johns Hopkins in the quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament on Sunday.
