SU forms committee to search for new athletics director following Daryl Gross stepping down

In wake of Syracuse University Director of Athletics Daryl Gross stepping, the university has formed a search committee in the search for a new athletics director.

The search committee will include at least seven members, including Interim Athletics Director Pete Sala and Chairman of the Board of Trustees Athletics Committee Robert Miron. Steve Ballentine, a member of the board of trustees, will chair the committee.

Members of the committee are:

  • Pete Sala
  • Robert Miron
  • Steve Ballentine, Board of Trustees member who will chair the committee
  • Lavonda Reed, associate provost for faculty affairs
  • Barry Wells, special assistant to the chancellor
  • A representative head coach who has not been named
  • Faculty and student representatives who have not been named
  • A representative from the Office of University Counsel which oversees athletic compliance

Chancellor Kent Syverud said in a campus-wide email that he will be asking the search committee to review and “organizational and structural changes with a focus on further enhancing the overall student-athlete experience including the possible creation of a new senior-level position to manage all department operations.”

Robert Miron did not immediately respond to an email requesting comment.
