Syracuse places tied for 1st in ACC poll as Treanor earns preseason honors

Syracuse women’s lacrosse tied for the top spot in the Atlantic Coast Conference women’s lacrosse preseason poll released Tuesday. Additionally, it was announced that Orange junior attack Kayla Treanor earned preseason All-ACC honors.

Both SU and North Carolina earned 59 points and split the eight first-place votes with four each in a poll by the league’s eight head coaches. Just two points separated the third-, fourth- and fifth-place teams in the poll. Duke took third with 40 points, Virginia placed fourth with 39 and Boston College ranked fifth with 38. Notre Dame (29 points), Louisville (16) and Virginia Tech (eight) rounded out the voting.

Treanor is coming off a season in which she won the ACC’s offensive player of the year award, was a Tewaaraton Award finalist and led the country with 117 points.

The Orange kicks off its season with a doubleheader on Saturday in the Carrier Dome. The Orange will play Denver at noon and Canisius at 7:30 p.m.
