Syracuse has 5 players taken in Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft

Five Syracuse seniors were taken in the 2015 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft, its most selected since 2011.

Midfielders Henry Schoonmaker and Hakeem Lecky, attacks Kevin Rice and Randy Staats and defender Sean Young were the SU players taken Friday night. Schoonmaker was selected with the 16th-overall pick by the Chesapeake Bayhawks, Lecky 20th by the New York Lizards, Rice 23rd by the Florida Launch, Staats 29th by the Rochester Rattlers and Young 37th by Rochester.

Schoonmaker and Lecky both started every game they played in last season and tied for seventh on the team with 17 points. Rice led the team with 80 points, recording 36 goals and 44 assists. Staats placed second on the team with 56 points, recording 33 goals and 23 assists. Young started all 16 of SU’s games and picked up 15 ground balls.

Rice was named a preseason first-team All-American by Inside Lacrosse. Staats was chosen for the second team, Young the third team and Schoonmaker received an honorable mention.

The Orange kicks off its regular season on Feb. 7 against Siena in the Carrier Dome.
