McIntyre wins NSCAA South Region Coach of the Year, now up for National Coach of the Year

Ian McIntyre has been named the National Soccer Coaches Association of America South Region Coach of the Year, TopDrawerSoccer.com announced on Monday night.

McIntyre is now eligible for National Coach of the Year along with the seven other regional winners and another group of coaches that is to be determined. The NSCAA will name the country’s top coach on Dec. 16 on the College Highlights show.

The fifth-year head coach led Syracuse to its best season in program history, amassing a 16-4-1 overall record and a 9-0-0 out-of-conference record. The Orange made it to the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament semifinals, the NCAA tournament round of 16 and achieved the nation’s No. 1 rank in November.

It’s the second individual award this year for the ACC Coach of the Year, who along with his assistants, won the 2012 Big East Coaching Staff of the Year. McIntyre will receive his award for South Region Coach of the Year at the NSCAA National Convention in Philadelphia on Jan. 15.
