Liam Callahan lays on the ground during the first half of Syracuse's 3-1 win over Wake Forest at SU Soccer Stadium on Friday night. Callahan left with the help of trainers with a high ankle sprain and said after the game that he'll likely miss at least a week.

Syracuse midfielder Liam Callahan suffered a high ankle sprain during No. 4 Syracuse’s (11-1, 4-1 Atlantic Coast) 3-1 win over Wake Forest (6-6, 2-3) on Friday night and will likely miss at least a week, he said after the game.

With 20:25 left in the first half, Callahan got his foot caught in the ground on an attempted slide. After hitting the ground, SU trainers rushed to his aid. He was carried off the field and was not putting any weight on the injury.

“All I know is I heard like four pops and I was just down for the rest,” Callahan said. “I’m not really sure what happened. It was kind of a big blur.”

Two seasons ago when he played at Villanova, Callahan dislocated his ankle in the same foot and had surgery. After the game on Friday, he was on crutches and had his right foot in a boot.

Korab Syla replaced Callahan for the remainder of the game.

“Injuries happen in our sport,” SU head coach Ian McIntyre said. “To lose Liam was disappointing but ultimately, it’s a team sport.”
