The injury bug hasn’t been kind to Syracuse, especially not offensive lineman Ivan Foy.

The senior right tackle, who has a year of eligibility left after this season, is battling two separate lower-leg injuries, SU head coach Scott Shafer said during the Atlantic Coast Conference coaches’ teleconference Wednesday morning.

“Ivan’s worked really hard trying to get back, but it’s not coming along as fast as anyone would hope,” Shafer said. “No one more than Ivan wants to be out there … He’s got two areas in his lower leg that we’re trying to get back.

“Luckily nothing is going to force us to have surgery or anything like that, but it’s a lot of healing and when you have two lower-body injuries at the same time, it makes it difficult for a kid to keep up his rehab.”

The Orange is evaluating the 6-foot-5, 292-pound lineman’s recovery somewhat day-to-day, Shafer said, but more so week-by-week.

Foy suffered the injury during the second quarter of Syracuse’s 31-15 loss to Notre Dame on Sept. 27. He had a knee brace on at the time.

In his place, SU used junior Michael Lasker at first but has since moved Omari Palmer from right guard to Foy’s spot at right tackle.

“Difficult process for Ivan, which is really a shame because he was playing extremely well,” Shafer said. “He was really becoming the type of right tackle that we thought would be a very good player for this year and the following year.”
